Working closely with the City of Hopkinsville and Christian County community stakeholders, Sherman Carter Barnhart designed an open concept multi-purpose facility to provide space for multiple sports, as well as the ability to provide additional exposition and convention center space to work in conjunction to the adjacent James E Bruce Convention Center (also designed by Sherman Carter Barnhart).

Flexible in design both in the use of materials as well as the arrangement of the indoor courts, the facility includes three (3) regulation high school courts, convertible to six (6) high school regulation volleyball courts, and one (1) indoor turf soccer field 85’x 185’. Each court is designed to accommodate a 50 x 84 high school basketball court or one futsal court. Basketball goals are retractable and there are provisions for automated baseball/softball pitching machines with drop-down cages for batting practice and pitching tunnels is also provided.

Attached to the multi-sport facility is a 6,000 SF commercial building to accommodate team rooms (large meeting room), locker rooms/restrooms, a cafe/concession area with seating, kitchen, offices, and amenities and infrastructure to support trade shows, and conventions. A large overhead door provides access to the facility. State of the art technology enhances the use of the new Sportsplex.

Working within a limited budget, the Sportsplex is a pre-engineered metal building featuring ample room around each sport floor for portable bleacher spectator seating.
