A Renewed Excitement For Education
Sherman Carter Barnhart created a vibrant, high quality high school that renewed the students’, staffs’, and administrations’ excitement for education.
The students’ revitalized interest in education can be seen in the school’s new media center. During design sessions, the staff, students and community expressed the desire for the media center to be the “heart of the school.” Sherman Carter Barnhart designed a spacious, high quality media center as the heart of the academic core. As a result of this design, the number of students making the extra effort to come to the media center before school increased tenfold.
By bringing together core academic subjects with programs like music, culinary arts, fine arts, construction technology, and robotics, we created a facility and educational model which excites and attracts students.
The Bryan Station High School Fine Arts Department features instructional areas for Band, Orchestra, Art, Vocal, and Midi lab.
The 2 – story, 500 – seat performing auditorium is enhanced by brick veneer as well as acoustical treatments on the walls and ceiling. A system of pipe battens are designed to facilitate light rigging and curtains. Light and sound are controlled from a central booth at the rear of the auditorium. House and theatrical lighting is mounted on electrical hoists to facilitate maintenance.
The Auditorium entrance is located off the main lobby to allow a sense of formal entry for performances. This positions the auditorium adjacent to public restrooms, the ticket office, and concession to allow after hours use while keeping the academic floors of the building closed.
The fine arts programs are situated near the new stage doors to facilitate use of the auditorium by these programs.
The replacement athletic stadium, designed by the firm’s Site Design/Development Division was constructed on the site of the old stadium. The stadium features a new synthetic turf football/soccer field, new home and visitors grandstands, as well as a new ticket booth and field house.
