A Deeply Rooted Community School
Beaver Dam Elementary was originally constructed in the 1930’s with additions in 1991 and 2001. As a result, the school became a clustering of areas hindering supervision and security, coupled with severely undersized instructional and administrative areas.
The project consisted of demolishing the original 1930’s structure, and building a new 500 student elementary onto the existing 1991 and 2001 areas.
Deeply rooted in tradition, Sherman Carter Barnhart worked with the community and staff to develop a design that incorporated items from the original building, such as pieces of the gym floor. Another design element included providing areas that allow the community to utilize the facility after hours while keeping the school secure.
Due to the need of the existing 1991 and 2001 additions to remain in operation during construction, the project was designed for construction to occur with preventative and safety measures in place.
