During his visit to Elkhorn Crossing School Tuesday, Gov. Steve Beshear called the career tech center a "wonderful facility and a great idea."
Elkhorn Crossing served as the meeting site for the governor's Task Force on Education. At Tuesday's meeting, the task force discussed the role of career tech education and the state's career tech programs.
"What you are doing here and what you will do here is a huge step," Beshear told the audience, which consisted of Scott County Schools personnel and members of the task force and officials from the Cabinet for Education and Workforce Development.
In his remarks, Beshear also spoke of "ramping up academics" in career tech education.
"There's no better setting than right here in this school to talk about this, where the entire purpose is to integrate academics into a technical education," Beshear said. "Here students don't just get training in career-based disciplines because we know that anymore that's not enough."
